The Clinical Pastoral Education/Training (CPE/T) Program at University Hospital is an outcomes-based clinical training program that integrates theological reflection with supervised pastoral practice in healthcare settings. The program comprises four sequential 400-hour units (1,600 hours total), typically completed over two years in a part-time format. Each unit includes 100 hours of didactics and 300 hours of supervised clinical ministry in an interdisciplinary environment. The curriculum follows an action–reflection–new action model and is grounded in a psychodynamic and clinical pastoral framework that emphasizes self-awareness, pastoral identity, and clinical competence, including engagement with Anton T. Boisen’s concept of the “living human document.” The program aligns with the standards of the College of Pastoral Supervision and Psychotherapy and the Spiritual Care Association, and it prepares participants for professional chaplaincy practice and for pursuing certification through their respective credentialing processes.
