PLEASE NOTE: Becoming an ACLS Instructor is a multiple- step process which involves on line and in- person course work, evaluations of skills and knowledge at the MASTERY level, and multiple days of attending classes as an Instructor Candidate. Please read this course description in its entirety before registering for the Instructor Course.
The ACLS Instructor program prepares the ACLS provider with the needed knowledge and skills to teach the ACLS curriculum to advanced providers including Paramedics, Registered Nurses, Physicians, etc.
Minimal requirements to register for the course:
MUST possess current ACLS and BLS provider cards.
MUST have at least two FULL years of certification as an ACLS/ BLS provider.
Steps to become an ACLS Instructor:
- Meet the minimal requirements listed above.
- Register for an upcoming ACLS Instructor course.
- Complete the online Instructor Essentials course (provided after registration)
- Attend the in- person Instructor Course.
The Instructor course will include:
Skills evaluation- Instructor Candidates will be tested on their proficiency in the ACLS/ BLS algorithms and mega code skills as well as their ACLS/ BLS knowledge.
ACLS knowledge evaluation- Instructor Candidates will be tested on their knowledge of ACLS/ BLS.
PLEASE NOTE: Instructor Candidates who do not successfully demonstrate proficiency in skills and knowledge at the MASTERY level will be asked to leave and will not progress further in the course.
General orientation- Orientation to the UH Training Center- who we are and how we conduct our courses.
The In- person AHA Instructor Essentials training.
Instructor Essentials exam- Instructor Candidates will be tested on their knowledge from the Instructor Essentials course.
After successful completion of the ACLS Instructor class- Instructor Candidates must complete the following:
- Monitor at least two days of in person ACLS classes.
(The Instructor Candidate will observe the ACLS Instructor conduct the course)
- Teach at least one day of in person ACLS classes.
(The Instructor Candidate will teach the curriculum under the observation of the Instructor)
PLEASE NOTE: These are the minimal amount of monitor/ teaching days required by the Training Center. Additional monitoring/ teaching classes may be needed as indicated by the Instructors/ Training Center Manager.
IMPORTANT INFORMATION:
Successful completion of the ACLS Instructor program does not imply nor guarantee employment as a paid Instructor at the UH Training Center. Open positions/ requirements for Instructors can be found on the employment website at www.uhnj.org.
ACLS Instructor Candidates who successfully become AHA ACLS Instructors may ONLY teach ACLS classes on campus for the UH Training Center.
Instructors may have the option to apply to teach at other Training Centers ONLY with approval from those Training Center Coordinators.
