American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers course covers core material such as adult and pediatric CPR (including two-rescuer scenarios and use of the bag mask), foreign-body airway obstruction and automated external defibrillation. This course is for healthcare providers such as EMS personnel, physician assistants, doctors, dentists, nurses, respiratory therapists, and lifeguards who must have a credential (card) documenting successful completion of a Healthcare Provider CPR course.
If you fail to receive course confirmation via email, please check your SPAM/Junk folders. Receiving your course manual prior to the class is a pre-requisite for this course.
UH and Rutgers employees are only eligible for renewal for 45 days prior to your expiration date (as noted above).

NOTE: After 3/1/2025 the BLS Class location is 185 South Orange Avenue, Newark NJ in the Rutgers Medical Science Building. Students without parking passes can park in the P2 parking deck at the corner of South Orange Avenue and Bergen Street. The address for the parking deck is 160 Bergen Street. You can access the deck from either South Orange Ave or Bergen Street.

In order to provide a safe and healthy environment for our staff and students all participants must:
- Be subject to COVID screening, including screening and temperature checks. Any student determined to be sick will not be permitted to participate in the training session
- Don a face covering while in all UH owned and leased properties (provided)
- Remain at least 6 feet distance from others at all times
- Practice hand-hygiene at the start,and throughout the course
- If you are sick, STAY HOME.
Employees of University Hospital and Rutgers are not eligible for “free” BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP Provider and/or Recertification courses until 45 days from your current expiration date.
