American Heart Association Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider Renwal Course. Upon completion of this PALS class the health care provider will be able to understand how to recognize and prevent the common causes of pediatric injuries and emergencies that require resuscitation. You’ll understand how to recognize respiratory failure, shock, and cardiac arrest. You will also learn when to initiate advanced resuscitation with airway and ventilation control, vascular access, fluid and medication therapy, and how to identify and treat rhythm disturbances. Students may only register for the renewal course with a valid and up to date AHA PALS card.
If you fail to receive course confirmation via email, please check your SPAM/Junk folders. Retreving your course manual is a pre-requisite for this course.
Pre-Course Assessments (ACLS/ PALS ONLY)
The American Heart Association requires all ACLS & PALS Course participants (including recertification courses) to complete the pre-course assessment PRIOR to the course date. Students will be assigned the pre-course assessment directly to the email they provided during their course registration. If you do not receive the link to your email, please call the office. DO NOT utilize pre-course assessments found on the internet as they will not be accepted- you MUST use the link provided by the UH Training Center.
All students MUST pass with a score of 80% or greater. Reattempts are unlimited.
PLEASE NOTE: Pre-Course assessments MUST be completed AT LEAST 24 hours prior to the class start time. If the pre-course assessment is not completed at that time, YOU WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE REMOVED FROM THE CLASS and will be charged the administrative fee. Even if the precourse assessment is completed after that time- YOU WILL STILL NOT BE ADMITTED TO THE CLASS.
UH and Rutgers employees are only eligible for renewal for 45 days prior to your expiration date (as noted above).
Employees of University Hospital and Rutgers are not eligible for “free” BLS/ACLS/PALS/NRP Provider and/or Recertification courses until 45 days from your current expiration date.
The PALS Renewal course covers:
- 1 and 2 rescuer child/infant CPR and AED use
- Management of respiratory emergencies
- Rhythm disturbances and electrical therapy
- Vascular access
- Resuscitation team concept
- Cardiac, respiratory, and shock case discussions and stimulations
- Systematic approach to pediatric assessment
